SAMANTHA BECKMANN DESIGNS
This collection was designed for an eclectic, adventure-seeking individual who is unafraid of a journey to other realms and ways of thinking. Creating outfits that evoke the different characters from these tales and bring them into a modern setting was my main objective. Ice dyeing, knitting, and beading were explored to invoke the literary characters of Sir Gawaine, Mordred, Merlin, Morgana le Fay, and the Lady of the Lake. From this broad range, masculine and feminine details intermingled, with tough textural fabrics and delicate details merging to produce an interconnected story.
At its core, this compilation reflects the Pre-Raphaelite ideals of opposing conventional trends and the importance of nature. From the flowing, romantic silhouettes to the mimicry of ebbing water, the combination of the characters' stories coupled with imaginative design details allowed for the creation of a juxtaposed, yet cohesive range of garments. In my mind, these illusions are a shield behind, but they also act as a justification of my beliefs and abilities, showcasing the design talents and artistic expression I possess in my defense.
